GLOBAL WARMING MOVIE

January 2nd 2008 -

Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature in the oceans and air. The increase in global temperature has various adverse effects on our lives. Due to the increased temperature, glaciers and icebergs will melt and eventually disappear. This will lead to an enormous increase in the sea levels and many low lying areas will simply sink into the sea water. Other effects include reduced crop yields, change in trade routes, and extinction of species; also, the widespread affects of new diseases as well as the resurfacing of those ‘older’ diseases that we have kept under control for so long. Many attempts in the past to educate the public and authorities about global warming have been undertaken in various ways. There are several global warming movies and documentaries produced by various environment supporters. Some of these global warming movies received great public reception and others just flapped off. The popular global warming movies include An Inconvenient Truth, The Day After Tomorrow, Waterworld, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, The Arrival, Swindle and the Split Second.

Al Gore’s, An Inconvenient Truth, received tremendous reception all over the world. In many places people gave impulsive clapping and standing ovations while seeing this movie. The reason behind this is that people thought this movie had directly focused an issue that has great impact on their lives. It is a kind of movie that anyone who is concerned about this planet must see. Apart from screening An Inconvenient Truth in several theaters the world over, DVD versions also had been released to easily allow several more people to see the movie.

‘The Day After Tomorrow’ is another movie that made a great impact on people about environmental concerns. The inspiration for this science fiction movie has come from a book named ‘Coming Global Superstorm’ written by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber. Greenpeace activists and other environmental enthusiasts took part in promoting this movie by distributing pamphlets. Basically, ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ deals with the very ill effects of global warming. It shows how the sea levels are rising due to the melting of glaciers and ice shelves in Antarctica. Incidentally, the scientific advisor of this movie happened to be the leader of a group that negotiated Kyoto Protocol and deals with Global warming issues. The other movies mentioned above have also served as great influencers for the cause of global warming.
